Richard E. Layton

Richard E. Layton, 84, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at his home on Friday, February 16, 2024. Richard was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on September 25, 1939, the son of Earl and Luella (Diuble) Layton. Richard is survived by the love of his life of 63 years, Virginia (Odgers) Layton.

Richard graduated High School and then attended Michigan Tech University where he was a star Hockey Player. Richard was a construction manager for several contractors in his lifetime, working for Industrial Contractors before his retirement. After a short stint with retirement, he returned to work for TMI Contractors as an estimator. He enjoyed collecting die-cast cars and going to the gun range.

Richard is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons, David, Kenneth, Paul (Collette), and Scott (Judy) Layton; grandchildren, Jacob, Alexander, and Amelia Layton.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 23, 2024, at the Denning Family Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 11:00 am until the time of service.
